Would you like to Heal your body while simultaneously helping to replenish Mother Earth?When Hippocrates said “Let food be thy medicine and medicine be thy food”, he was referring to the bodies amazing ability to regenerate when given the nutrients and minerals that food provides. With all the sickness in our society one might ask the question ” what is causing people to become ill?” Well I’m glad you asked because I am going to tell you. It is because the food most people consume is void of nutrition and choked full of harmful substances. There are too many chemicals and toxins in our food chain; from preservatives and synthetic sweeteners in the food to the chemicals and hazardous waste that is depleting our soils and polluting the earth. We need to collectively join forces to heal ourselves and the planet as it takes the brunt of this abuse. One solution to this problem is to start growing your own food in a sustainable way and support local organic food producers by purchasing locally instead of from the corporate chain store. This serves several purposes,for one it supports the local economy, second it builds community, 3rd it is more efficient and less wasteful, and finally it is more nutritious and better tasting. When you grow food sustainably, you are actually building the soil instead of depleting it and the foods that come forth are delicious and full of life. So do yourself and the planet a favor and start being more mindful of the quality of food you consume and where it comes from and how it is grown, “You are what you eat”. So “Let food be thy medicine and medicine be thy food” as Hippocrates so generously noted!
Today is the first of 2014! Now is the time to start thinking about the new things you would like to bring into your life for 2014. An excellent and profound practice to start this year is to embrace the power of “Choice.” Every decision you make on a second to second basis will either benefit your goals or distract you from them. You can use this method for every aspect of your life. You make the decision, you respond to the situation, if your action is alignment with the good of all then you have choosen most efficiently. The more often you make the choice to stand up for what is right for you instead of appeasing others at your own expense than the brighter your inner flame will shine and the more capable you will be to pursue higher goals. Sometimes you will have to say “no” in order to say yes for yourself. So if you are trying to become a healthy person and have decided you will pursue a natural diet consisting of whole foods and you go to a gathering where the others have decided they will continue to eat the SAD (standard american diet), so there are no foods available for you to eat that will keep you true to your desire. What do you do? Choice 1- eat small portions and pretend to enjoy or Choice 2- when in Rome? Follow the crowd and chow down. or choice 3- Say no and either fast for the party or snack on the veggies. You will have to decide. This also goes for conversations or even self talk. Your words you use can create magic or they can can be used to make you a victim. You choose. Choose Wisely in every decision you make throughout the day and you will surely have a blessed 2014. Take the time to choose what you want to create in your life and then take action towards it by consciously making the small choices from moment to moment that are in agreement with the overall goal. The music of the plants has been studied in Damanhur since 1976. A group of researchers began creating equipment capable of capturing electromagnetic changes on the surface of leaves and roots, turning them into sounds. Like humans and animals, plants have their own intelligence and sensitivity. All of nature projects a vibration of sounds. Plants, much like humans just happen to be able to sing tones of music. Perhaps that is a large part of the reason why we love spending time within the presence of this great source of power. And even though most of us cannot hear these soothing and nurturing sounds with our naked ears, and without the aid of this equipment, I for one, trust that it is through our feelings that we benefit most in our interaction with nature. If you have a job that requires you to spend long periods of time sitting then it is very important to learn proper posture while sitting. The first step is to purchase a chair that is able to adjust. You will want to sit so that your feet are flat on the floor with you knees being slightly lower than your hips to keep your hip flexors from shortening. You will want your arms to be at a 90 degree angle with your shoulders relaxed and the keyboard at the same level. The center of the monitor should be level with your eyes. If you need extra support for your lower back use a lumbar support.As far as your torso is concerned you will want to keep your ribs level with your abdomen. The next step is too imagine your “butt” bone known as the SITS bones as a tree’s roots being sent downward while at the same time lengthening , growing, and expanding upwardly with you torso while keeping your ribs level with your stomach. The object is to push away from the points of pressure. If you learn to sit this way, your posture will improve and your back PAIN will disappear. Try it out and let me know how it works for you.
